UVA Wins National Indoor at Home
A week after the women’s event, it was the men’s turn to battle for the National Indoor Championship held at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville. And it was the University of Virginia (UVA) Cavaliers, hosts of the event, that captured the win! After a frustrating loss last year, the back-to-back NCAA Champions came out as winners of the second most prestigious tournament of the season, welcoming 16 of the best teams in the country.
First seed and all-time favorite, UVA accomplished close to a perfect tournament winning their first three dual matches 4-0 against #16 Utah, #8 UCLA, and #5 North Caroline. Moreover, UVA confirmed its status in the final, beating Ohio State 4-1. Although the overall score seems like it was an easy win for the Cavaliers, the Buckeyes battled until the last point, and can be proud of their performances. As a matter of fact, the clinch came from J.C. Aragone, who’s had to pull off a third set tie-breaker win to hand to UVA its 6th National Indoor Title.
The last time the Cavaliers won National Indoor, in 2013, they came back with the NCAA Championship trophy as well. Will they be able to make that happen again?
